I was recently reading an article and came across an interesting anecdote where legend has it that Ernest Hemingway won a bet to write a novel with just six words. He wrote “For sale: baby shoes. Never worn.” This got me thinking of the power of brevity of words but it also got me thinking as to what would my 6-word story be? It will be deeply insightful and profound if we sum up our life in a 6-word story. Reflecting back on 2024 seemed timely and I was encouraged to write one.
While it might seem like an academic exercise to do so, this deeply self reflective activity puts the year in perspective and also gives you clarity on what meant most this year. We often surround ourselves with a lot of clutter and taking time to look through the haze on what matters most will be invaluable. My 6-word story for 2024 was “Promise fulfilled, Death and New Beginnings”
It will be a great start if we can write 6-word stories for our spiritual life, our personal life, our professional life and our Family life. Lastly, it would be fascinating if we can start 2025 with a 6-word story and come back at the end of the year to see how close we were to it.
Summary: As Robert Byrne quotes “The purpose of Life is a life of purpose.” This exercise brings us close to understanding our purpose in life and how close we are to living it.
