Wear your Employee's shoes !

Updated: Jul 19, 2021

What makes leaders great? This is a question that is often asked by first time people leaders. You would think that, as time passes people leaders understand what makes great leaders, you would be wrong to assume that. Experienced people leaders ask this question as often as others.

The first and foremost principle that a great leader should live by is “Do to others as you would have them do to you (Luke 6:31) “. If I am expecting my leader to appreciate me for the work I do, my people are expecting the same from me. If I am expecting my leader to be fair and give me scope to take calculated risks, your people are expecting the same from you. If I am expecting my leader to provide air cover for some mistake that has happened, my team members are expecting the same from me.

Summary: Putting yourself into your team members’ shoes and meeting their expectations is one of the key characteristics of a great leader.
