I missed a Left Turn!

Updated: Jan 12

An Unplanned Deviation:

My family and I visited a farm over the past fall season for pumpkin and apple picking. It was a great experience. We had a fun day and were on our way back home after a tasty farm to table meal. While we were driving back on a winding road, we had to take a left turn and I MISSED it. I announced that we missed the turn and thats going to add another 10 minutes to our route and so we started driving down a winding road just being a little unhappy that we have to drive longer.

As we started driving on that single lane road, the landscape started to change and the country homes, the meadows in the fall season were so beautiful to look at. We brought out our phones and started taking pictures of the beautiful country side views. We started feeling better that this additional distance and time was not as bad as we thought it would be. Little did we know that as we were coming down the hill we saw one of the most beautiful views of all of the season with hundreds of trees in variations of color that were exploding in front of our eyes. We could have spent hours just taking in the scenery that no picture can capture. It was worth so much more than missing that turn.

What seemed like a mistake at first now seemed like a great intervention and worth every second. This spectacle in front of our eyes would not have happened if we had not missed that turn. What I learnt that day was to trust that when we miss some of these turns we are going to experience some wonderful moments that will take our breath away.

There are countless stories where people left comfortable jobs and started their own ventures are we successful, people who were laid off from stable jobs but built great careers, people who chose to move to another city for work but that opened up many exciting opportunities, people who moved abruptly to foreign countries with totally different cultures and fluourished. All these were unexpected or seemed like interruptions but ended up as growth opportunities or cherished learnings. On the face of it, while it might seem like an unplanned interruption or deviation, it typically works out to be a much better experience than envisioned.

Summary: In 2026, we will miss a few turns here and there but I trust that the Lord is in control and it will work out for good. Let Go and Let God !!
